In 1999 Ashley established his own studio and has successfully sold and exhibited his pieces in galleries throughout Australia. He has since relocated his workshop to Mt Nathan in the Gold Coast hinterland In 2005 he was awarded the prestigious Winston Churchill Fellowship to study and work with prominent designers and woodcraftsman including the great Sam Maloof in the United States. Ashley also visited Britain and Scandanivia where he studied the latest technology involved in wood bending to stretch the boundries contempory Australian furniture . .
