A Singular Vision

In 1999 Ashley established his own studio and has successfully sold and exhibited his pieces in galleries throughout Australia.  He has since relocated his workshop to Mt Nathan in the Gold Coast hinterland  In 2005 he was awarded the prestigious Winston Churchill Fellowship to study and work with prominent designers and woodcraftsman including the great Sam Maloof in the United States.  Ashley also visited Britain and Scandanivia where he studied the latest technology involved in wood bending to stretch the boundries contempory Australian furniture .  .

Ashley’s unique contemporary designs enhance the beauty of Australian timbers and are recognizable by their functional simplicity, intriguing construction and graceful lines, and quality craftsmanship..  

Ashley’s career began in the Northern Rivers district of New South Wales where he began an apprenticeship with world renowned wood craftsman, Tony Kenway.  His passion for creating unique designs with native Australian timbers was recognized early in his career when he was awarded the apprenticeship of the year in 1995. He spent the next few years working with Tony producing  award winning furniture for the international market.
